Piracy on
the Bahamas lasted thirty years from 1690 to 1720, and the Capital city of the
Bahamas ; Nassau was the hub of the activity for the pirates which was the most
significant gathering of Pirates ever seen anywhere in the new world. From
their harbor they were concealed enough to perform hit and run attacks on the
close by shipping trade routes successfully and they’d a stockpile of gold and
products which were thieved, these attracted rogues and unwelcome from all of
the parts of which then formed a booming community of crime. The Cays and
number of islands there were made the Bahamas the best spot for the pirates to
run operations from and around. There were masses of of the most feared and
well known Pirates on the island during these years not least Blackbeard.

The
pirate called Blackbeard was born in 1680 named Edward Teach, he originally
came from Bristol and moved to the Caribbean in the early 1700’s to join the
privateers he first went to Jamaica and when privateering licenses were revoked
by Britain Blackbeard turned to thievery, he had a ship which he caught from
the French and called Queen Anne’s Revenge and this is what he converted into
his forty gun flagship. Though Black beard ( He renamed himself after his long
black hairs ) is among the most notorious and disgraceful Pirates ever he was
never very successful at piracy, he was usually equipped with daggers, epees
and pistols there’s also no proof of him murdering anybody until the day of his
own death, Blackbeard had the power to put fear into any individual he came
into contact with as he used to be a big man who when he went into battle would
plat his beard into pig tails and hide slow burning matches behind so that
smoke would circle his face which sometimes in itself was enough for the
merchant captains to surrender. Blackbeard had three hundred men and four ships
and they were successful in gaining products from all the ships which they
attacked they went and did this with Mariners from North Carolina to New
England. There were tons of hideouts for the pirates around North Carolina.

Blackbeard
left the Caribbean in 1718 to explore and raid other places such as Virginia
and the Carolinas, it was here that he performed some of the most expectant
raids of his career one of which was hosting a week long besiege of Charleston
Harbor which he was hoping to gain drugs from and he was once guarded by the
governor of Carolina who shared his cash. The Governor of Virginia put a price
on pirates head in retaliation to this and Blackbeard was scammed into a battle
in 1718 in which he died, legend has it that even after he’d been shot and
stabbed that Blackbeard still managed to fight on until he died while shooting
a pistol.
