Ottawa Township High Schoolis expecting continued difficult financial times after it released a proposed $3 million deficit budget.
On Monday, OTHS board members Monday unanimously agreed to hold a public hearing on the budget during its next board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24. A budget hearing is a normal practice for the district.
Were holding the line on expenses but our revenues are decreasing significantly, said Superintendent Matt Winchester. Its very, very difficult to keep pace when our revenues are decreasing so rapidly.
The district expects to spend $18.33 million this school year while only expecting to bring in $15.29 million in revenue sources.
Winchestersaid a portion of the deficit is due to a $700,000 decline in revenue. The bulk of the revenue decrease comes from falling property values, cuts made by state lawmakers to general state aid and corporate personal property replacement tax.
In an interview with local media after the open session of Mondays meeting,Winchesterdid not identify any other revenue or expenditure issues facing the district.
According to Illinois State Board of Education financial records, OTHS teachers are the second highest paid in the county with an average salary of $76
,341 ever since they went on strike in 2009.
