My husband loves websites that offer free astrology readings. I don’t have the heart to tell him that what they email him every morning are designed to be one-size-fits-all, because not every Leo in the world was born on the same date in the same year, and have the same rising and moon signs in the exact same place on their charts. So even though every Leo gets the same reading, my husband still thinks the message is just for him. (Isn’t that like a Leo?) Oh, well, it’s all in fun… Until the other night he showed me a very disturbing ad the website had sent him – and I’m sure it was sent to all of the website’s subscribers.

The message banner asked: “IS YOUR LOVE LIFE CURSED?”

I gritted my teeth. What an awful idea to implant in people’s minds! I thought of all the psychic scam artists out there who prey on people’s vulnerability and ask them to pay money to remove “curses.” Here’s some great advice FOR FREE for everyone who thinks they’re living under a black cloud: Think positive thoughts, strengthen the light within yourself, and stop believing other people have power over you.

Here’s the message, in part, my husband received from the website:

“Do you feel like there’s a black cloud hanging over your love life? Are you underappreciated at work? If the stars seem to have forgotten to work their karmic magic on you, don’t give up hope! True love, your ideal career, or a windfall could be right around the corner, or even right in front of your nose!”

Shame on you, for sending out such a fear-inducing message!

The only part of the ad that’s true is love and happiness is right in front of your nose. The world is a loving, supportive place, and your angels and guides want to help you realize that. If you feel love and happiness is always just out of reach, it’s not because you’re cursed – perhaps you’ve put blocks in front of you. Are you secretly afraid of success? Are you missing out on love because you’re shy, or you’re hesitant about opening yourself up to the possibility of sharing yourself with someone? Karma isn’t working against you – you’re tripping over your own fear. “Change your attitude and change your life” is the lesson behind many wonderful self-help books available at your local public library.

If I’m coming across as strident, I apologize. I’m sure there are many fine workers at psychic-based websites who whole-heartedly want to give service. I’m sure they, like me and countless other intuiitives, honour and respect the work we do. I just don’t like to think there are psychics and mediums out there who take advantage of people who are truly seeking help.

I’ve been writing blogs for several years, and I get the most responses from one I did on psychic scams. It’s never too late to recapture your power. Just remember: No one can curse you except yourself. Or, as Eleanor Roosevelt saidFind Article, “No one can make you feel bad without your permission.”

Not always the bullseye

Dylan came to me with a pile of financial concerns. Would he keep his job? Would he have to sell some of his rental properties to stay afloat? Would he be able to afford the alimony payments to his wives – and make payments to a fourth?

Dylan came to me with a pile of financial concerns. Would he keep his job? Would he have to sell some of his rental properties to stay afloat? Would he be able to afford the alimony payments to his three wives – and was he going to have to consider making payments to a fourth?

I centred myself and concentrated on his energy. After a few moments, I told him I felt his employment situation was stable, he would keep all his rental properties, his wives would all remarry within a month of each other and his alimony concerns would fly out the door.

“Great!” he exclaimed. “That’s just what I was hoping for!”

Well, six month later, Dylan emailed me to tell me how wrong I’d been. He’d been downsized to a position that paid less money, and he had to sell two apartment buildings because a couple ex-wives took him to court for more money. And the only thing that flew out the door was wife number four. (Though he did confide he had an eye on a potential number five.)

I told him I was sorry things had turned out they did. And then I spent the rest of the afternoon moping because I hadn’t been able to help Dylan. Why had I gotten the reading so wrong?

I came up with three reasons why readings may not turn out as forecasted:

1. Our freedom of choice to follow or disregard any advice we get. Before each reading, I always tell clients, “A reading is only as good as the moment it’s given.” That’s because what I intuit can change, because you have the freedom to live your life as you see fit. For example, I may intuit the possibility of disease, but if that person decides to change her diet and begin exercising, that person may not get seriously ill. In these instances, I’m always happy to learn my first feeling was incorrect.

2. Sometimes, things in life are outside our control. I’m always reminded of the story of the very credible medium (I can vouch for him) who gave a very thorough reading to a client, who was then killed in an automobile accident on the way home. When he learned of what had happened, he was stunned: “I never saw that!” he said, dazed.

3. People want to believe something so badly, they project those beliefs into their aura. I wonder if this was Dylan’s case – he wanted to manifest positive outcomes so strongly, I mistakenly read them as if they were his truth. Think of it this way: Lie detector tests can be fooled by people who actually believe something false is true. For example, ask them if they can fly and if they believe it, they’ll answer yes and believe it so strongly, the lie detector will read the answer as truth.

Perhaps Dylan’s desires were projected so strongly, they coloured his – and my – ability to see truth.

PlusFree Reprint Articles, there’s a reason many in my field call readings a “psychic art” because it’s an inexact science. Just remember this – a reading is a tool you can use to examine your life’s possibilities. It’s not an end-all 100 percent declaration that tells you how to live your life!

Live through it

I like when clients have pictures during sessions; photographs capture the energy of the individual and help me to better link with the person’s spirit.

Marilyn wanted to hear from her daughter, Genevieve – “Jenny” to her friends. Jenny had passed into spirit about five years ago, leaving three small children and a very distraught husband. Marilyn showed me a picture of Jenny. I like when clients have pictures during Skype sessions; photographs capture the energy of the individual and help me to better link in with the person’s spirit. Jenny’s thick, golden hair perfectly framed her oval face, and accented her soft, brown eyes. Her playful smile made me want to smile. Everything about her said “gentle.”

I closed my eyes and centred myself to get ready to receive spirit. I mentally sent a prayer for help to my guides, and for a few moments, I felt the bliss of touching in with the spirit world—

Like a sudden jerk to my solar plexus, I sat forward. My eyes popped open and a tingle in my spine told me something wasn’t right.

Slowly, trying to find the best words, I said, “I understand … her children miss her … but surely, in the five years since her passing … they might have been able to work with … work through their grief …”

Tears spilled from Marilyn’s eyes. She looked downward and spoke in a hushed voice: “My daughter died two weeks ago. Not five years.”

I sat silently while gathering my wits. I’ve had clients who’ve tried to trick me by purposely giving me misleading information – God only knows why – but I didn’t feel Marilyn was playing me. Her grief was too real, too strong – it rolled off her in waves.

She took a tissue from the box on her desk and dabbed her eyes. “I’m sorry for lying,” she said. “When we talked on the phone last week to set up the session, you said a person should wait a few months before coming to see you. So I told you five years. I just … I needed to hear from Jenny so badly … I miss her so much … Some days, it’s so hard for me to even get out of bed …”

I opened my desk drawer to get one of the telephone numbers I keep handy: the contact information for a grief counselor that I knew and trusted. I gave Marilyn the number, and urged her to call.

“At this point in time,” I told her, “I don’t think I’m the right person to help you. Visiting a medium does not circumvent the grieving process. I know Jenny’s passing has created a lot of painful feelings, but you need to live through them. I’ve known some people whose sorrow turned to anger because they didn’t give themselves the chance to mourn, and then heal from that grief. I’m not saying this is you, but I do feel talking about your feelings to someone who’s better trained to deal with these emotions than I am may be more helpful to you.”

Marilyn tried to smile. She copied the phone number on a slip of paper, and then she sighed, folded the paper in half, and placed it to the side.

“And later, if you still feel like it,” I said, “come back in about six months.”

After Marilyn disconnected from our Skype session, I said a quick prayer that she’d give the number a call. As I thanked my guides for helping me deliver the right message, I heard a gentle female voice sayPsychology Articles, “Thank you.”

You are never too young

I was surprised to learn the young man who’d asked me such an interesting question was only 17 years old. His curly hair hung down to his shoulders, and he wore the kind of tie-dyed t-shirts I used to wear when I was 17. But his inquisitive brown eyes were filled with wisdom, and when I looked at him, I felt I was gazing into the spirit of an old soul. Our brief chat was enough to give me hope that, yes, a new generation of lightworkers out there are eager to learn about how to spread love, hope, and wonder.

This happened at an event where I was promoting my book Compassionate Messenger, taking questions from the audience about mediumship and spirituality, and delivering a few messages from spirit to people in the audience. We sandwiched about 35 people in the basement of a bookstore, between shelves filled with paperbacks.

After opening the floor for questions, I received the usual inquiries asking me how I got started in mediumship, do I believe protection is important, and how do I know when I’m really connecting with a spirit?

A young man sitting near the back of the room raised his hand, then put it down, looked at the floor for a few minutes, then raised his arm again. And then put it down again. The third time I saw his arm go up, I immediately went to him.

He spoke clearly and confidently, yet there was also a tentativeness in his voice. “Can a person be too young to decide if he wants to develop psychic abilities?” he asked. “Or do you have to wait ‘til you’re older?”

I had to smile. “You’re never too young to begin developing intuitive abilities,” I said, then told him about how I’d seen spirit lights when I was eight years old, and how I felt lucky to be born into a family who didn’t discourage interaction with spirit. My grandmother was the hairdresser of the medium who used to visit Prime Minister McKenzie King, who was a Spiritualist, and when I was 19 my father introduced me to his psychic, Sadie, a medium who would become my mentor for the next two decades.

I turned to my husband and asked if he had anything to add. “I began reading tarot cards when I was 16,” he said. “I can’t remember now what drew me to them, but even as a child I was always fascinated by all kinds of cards.” And then he looked the young man in the eye. “And what do you mean by older, sonny?”

Everyone had a good laugh. Afterward, the young man sought me out. Craig told me he was only 17 years old and had several experiences he couldn’t explain. But rather than being unnerved by them, he wanted to know more about the spirit world.

I encouraged Craig to find a mentor, or join a meditation group or a developmental circle that had positive-thinking, like-minded individuals who would help him develop his gifts – gifts, incidentally, that we all have (but not all of us are aware of).

I hope Craig finds his mentor or his group. I also hope he feels confident enough to explore his curiosity about psychic abilities, and that his parents are supportive of their son’s desire to pursue his burgeoning talents. If so, I congratulate his parents for being open enough to let Craig discover if being a lightworker is the path he’d like to walk. And if so… well, as they say, when the student is readyFind Article, the teacher will appear.

I was giving messages to the congregation at a Spiritualist church, and described the spirit of a frail, white-haired fellow with his eyes closed in a hospital bed. The man’s energy felt like drawing breath was exhausting. But he wasn’t in pain. He was at peace, and was comfortable knowing that his soul was in transition to the next life. Spirit then showed me a garnet ring on his finger.

“Does anyone know this gentleman?” I asked hopefully. The room’s silence told me nobody wanted to accept this dying man.

It’s not unusual for me to feel the presence of someone who’s in the process of passing over. Depending on the circumstance, individuals who are getting ready to leave their body behind permanently often allow their soul to “explore” the afterlife by meeting with their loved ones who have already passed into spirit. I’ve also found this happens with Alzheimer’s patients who are in the last stage of dementia.

I refused to take “No” for an answer.

Okay, c’mon, guys, I mentally egged by guides. Help me with this one. Guide me to the person who needs to hear this message…

My eyes went to a grey-haired woman with tightly rolled curls sitting at the back of the room. As I approached her, she smiled up at me with an amused, yet puzzled expression. I asked her, “Did any of what I said make any sense to you?”

She leaned forward. “I’m so sorry,” she said softly, with a trace of a Russian accent. “Could you please repeat what you said? I’m not hearing too good.”

A warmth spread through my chest, and I knew I was with the right person. In a louder voice, I described the elderly man to her, and she nodded enthusiastically.

“Yes!” she said, and her face filled with a rosy glow. “My husband Johann. We married 63 years! We are going to visit him in hospital after church. We,” she said, gesturing to the younger man sitting beside her, “came to pray for his peaceful passing.”

“Your prayers are being answered, and Johann wants to thank you for that,” I told her.

Now that the connection was made, he Johann came in stronger. “Someone’s telling me his transition is going to be peaceful. In fact, he’s already talking with his relatives on the other side.” I concentrated on an image of the man and a woman who were visiting Johann in spirit. “He’s a big man with a thick mustache, and there’s dirt under his fingernails. And he’s very proud of that. She’s very close to him, quiet, and half his size.”

“Yes!” She said happily. Tears were in her eyes. “That sounds like my husband’s mother and father.”

I almost felt like crying myself as I repeated Johann’s thoughts: “Your husband wants you to know that he’s very thankful you visit him and pray for his painless departure from this world. He also wants to thank you for marrying him. You are a good companion, and he loves you very much.”

“Oh, bless you,” the woman said, wiping her eyes with a white cotton handkerchief. “I’m so happy to know he did not suffer. Good to know family there waiting for him. My hope is when it my time, he be there, waiting for me.”

I assured her that was the case that we never go home alone. StillComputer Technology Articles, it’s always comforting to hear reassuring words – how love survives our physical life and loving spirits will welcome us and walk with us as we enter eternity.
