Get what you want negotiating skills for the timid

OK, I know this title sounds self-serving and a little hard nosed, but the article isn’t! Whether it’s buying a car, asking for a pay rise, saying ‘no’ to a friend or renting an apartment – at some stage in our lives we all are going to need to know how to negotiate. Yet, so few of us know the basic skills before embarking on life changing purchases or decisions!

This article is written for those TIMID folk who want to feel more confident in the basic skills of negotiating. These are the skills I have learnt that have made all the difference in the world to my approach to asking for what I want. Being the ultimate ‘server’ (i.e. always helping others) and ‘pacifier’ (i.e. always smoothing over conflict) I figure there are plenty of people who would like to know these skills which, believe me, don’t come naturally to some folk! Yet, they can make a significant difference to your sense of confidence when you learn them.

Here are 8 keys to learning how to negotiate well (for timid people who hate conflict).

1. Know for the outcome you want.

Do you want a win-win outcome where both parties benefit? Or a win-lose outcome where someone (presumably the other party) is not happy with the result?

It is important you know what type of outcome you want because that will affect the long term relationship you have with the other party. Win-win outcomes are beneficial where you have an ongoing relationship. For example, when you negotiate a pay rise, you don’t want your boss to feel he/she is the ‘loser’. However, if you are buying a car from a car lot, you may not be so concerned about whether the car salesperson feels as though they ‘won’ in the negotiation!

2. Know your ‘position’.

How important is this deal to you? How much do you need it? Could you walk away from the deal? What alternatives do you have? What is your “bottom line” and what (if anything) are you prepared to concede? You should not start negotiating until you have thought through and considered all of the consequences for all of the different outcomes that may eventuate.

3. Know your counterpart’s ‘position’.

Try to work out what is important to them in the deal. When you know that you have an advantage. Try not to reveal what is important to you! Keep a poker face and play your cards close to your chest.

4. Work out different scenarios ahead of time.

Being caught by surprise will NOT strengthen your position! Think through all the different possibilities which may eventuate and plan for each and every one of them. It is useful to brainstorm and write down on a piece of paper what could possibly happen. For example, if they said, “XYZ” – I would respond with, “ABC”. This way you can be prepared for just about anything that may happen.

5. Know yourself.

Know your own weaknesses. If you are a more gentle personality your natural aversion to conflict may toss you into concessions that aren’t necessary! If this is you, learn about yourself and take counter action. If you are overly stubborn and never give way to minor points, know this about yourself. Your stubbornness, holding out for 100% your own way, may cause you to lose a really great deal!

6. Back up your position with logic.

If you negotiate from a purely emotional position, emotion will sway you from your position. Fear of loss, sense of failure, conflict, pressure, sentiment! All can be applied to sway you from sticking to what you really want. When negotiating for a pay rise know what similar companies are paying for similar work. When placing an offer on a house substantiate your lower offer with the costs of repaving the driveway, renovating the bathroom, retiling the entrance….or whatever you see needs doing. This is a much stronger position than plucking a number out of thin air!

7. Work out what you can concede.

Find something in the deal that for you will not be important but for your counterpart may be of significance. This will be like gold to you! A ‘sweetener’ can be what clinches the bargain in your favour. You will need to be poker faced and pretend this is a big deal to concede! Save this item for the final offer you make.

8. Have an exit strategy.

If everything goes against you, you will be saved by your contingency planning! If you don’t feel in controlFree Web Content, stop talking. Immediately!!! Make sure you are listening to the other person. If you are doing most of the talking the chances are you are doing most of the conceding. Offer to break the meeting and reconvene at another time when you have been able to consider what has already been put forward.

Skillful negotiation takes time and practice. Armed with these basic skills it doesn’t matter how reticient you may feel towards negotiating an outcome you want! By applying these keys you will be well positioned to improve your negotiation skills and feel more empowered when approaching tricky situations.

PORTLAND, OR: Hollander Consultants was named one of the hundred best companies to work for in Oregon by Oregon Business magazine. Hollander Consultants ranked 39th among small businesses in Oregon, and Hollander Consultants also made the top 50 among all businesses in Oregon ranking 44thoverall.

Hollander Consultants also got a special recognition in the magazine for placing fifth amongst all businesses in Oregon for career development and learning for employees.

“It is quite an honor to appear in the list of 100 Best Companies to Work for in Oregon. Hollander Consultants definitely places a high emphasis on developing and training our staff. In a small business with just over 50 employees, we have found that providing in-house training is extremely beneficial to the overall growth and health of the company,” said Fred King, CEO of Hollander Consultants.

Oregon Business just released its March issue that announced all of the companies that made the 100 Best list. For the past eleven years, Oregon Business has conducted surveys of employees throughout Oregon to ascertain how they view the companies they work for. Employees determine whether or not a company deserves to be on the list of the 100 Best by answering many questions in six distinct categories. Over 24,000 employees were surveyed this year from businesses all over the state.

Larry Silver, President of Hollander Consultants, stated, “Placing in the top 50 of the thousands of businesses in Oregon is certainly a testimony to the care we take of our staff. We certainly appreciate that our staff feels so strongly about the company. Since we not only placed 5th in the employee career development and learning category, but also 6th in the category of performance management and rewards, our employees really appreciate the effort we take to ensure they are recognized for the work they do. This is very gratifying as a business owner and a skill we teach our clients to do as well, as they are all also business owners.”

Hollander Consultants is one of the leading consulting firms in the United States and Canada for the combined dentistry, optometry and veterinary professions, and uses the administrative systems developed by business management pioneer, L. Ron Hubbard. Hollander Consultants can be found online at www.hollanderconsultants.com. Hollander Consultants also maintains an online quarterly magazine, SolutionsFeature Articles, which is located at www.solutionsmags.com.

Web awards and how to choose

I recently looked into applying for web awards. I saw them as a way to convey credibility to my customers and prospective buyers. After looking through many sites, it turns out there are an extremely large amount of award sites to choose from, but how many actually run a quality system of rating? Anyone can rate a site and hand out awards so what makes one site more credible than the other? There are a few things to consider before you apply for an award or put an award on your site.

Criteria- Do you meet it? If your looking for a focused assessment of your site look for criteria that is limited to a specialized category of sites. Criteria that any Joe can meet doesn’t mean the award is not credible, but wouldn’t you rather judges grading you against people in a similar field?

Scoring-Every award site implements a scoring system. It is usually easy to find and you should look this over. Then with this score sheet rate the web award site! If they can’t stand up to their own scoring they aren’t one to choose. Another thing to look for on a score sheet is what is being rated and how. If this award site is rating based on only a few items on a scale from one to three, there will be little accuracy in the assessment.

Judges-Look around a site for information on who is/are judging these sites. Read their bio(s), look at their site(s), and check their credentials. If you cannot locate the judges’ information who(m) are you really dealing with? It could be a robot for all you know, that just hands out awards left and right.

The Award- Look at the award itself. Is it more of an ad for their site or a certificate of achievement for you? Look for the latter. Also is the graphic of high quality? If the award is not appealing or looks unprofessional that will reflect on your site. One thing, that is an indication of a good awarder, is a site that sends a real certificate to your house or place of business as well as a graphic for your site. Now a days some award sites are just a disguised form of link exchange.

Past Winners- Review sites that have previously won the award you are interested in applying for. If these sites are all of a high standard and quality, pick one and contact the webmaster. Inquire on the response from his users, the award service, and anything else you would like to know. Usually you’ll get an informative reply.

Amount of Awards- No one appreciates going to a website an as soon as it loads they are bombarded with about twenty awards in a row. This is just plain bragging and obtrusive to the users experience. I suggest choosing one or two reputable awards and having them on a separate page or on the bottom of the site where all your other information is.

Free Applications Versus Paid- This is affected by your budget, preference, and needs. If you have the cash to apply for a paid award site do it. When your paying for the service your site will be reviewed more diligently, scored harder, and the rating will be more honest and accurate. With a paid application your site will be in the running with other quality sites because no ones going to dish out anywhere from ten to a few hundred dollars to have their poorly made site rejected.

In conclusion, there are many award sites to choose from. Choosing the right one can boost credibility, traffic, and page rank. Choosing a low quality, hand out, award could loose you customers for life and make your site look unprofessional. Do not rely on awards to make you an instant expert or “the guys to go to”, but the right one will show users that your work is appreciated and recognized as a quality site and that will reflect on your products, staffFree Articles, and content.

Livecamnetwork nets xbiz nomination

LiveCamNetwork is nominated for best live video for the second time since the release of 2much.net’s version 1.9 of the live video chat platform.

This is the second time LiveCamNetwork has been nominated for an award since the release of LiveCamNetwork 1.9., the video streaming and billing solution created by 2much.net less than two years ago.

“Live video is an odd, uncommon niche in adult,” said 2Much founder Mark Prince. “But it’s growing fast, especially since it was announced that DSL use is over the fifty percent bar.”

2much.net, which recently demonstrated a high definition, widescreen live video stream, has been in business since 1998, creating video chat sites inspired by its initial flagship site LiveCamNetwork.com. They’ve built over 50 sites, 80% of these since LiveCamNetwork 1.9 was launched in November 2003.

“The truth is that our success is due in large part to the quality of our chat hostesses, as much as the technology,” said Prince. “Luna, our LiveCamNetwork studio manager, is responsible for training the chat girls in basic sales techniques that have increased sales in the last year by 600%.”

“It’s not that our technology is revolutionary,” Prince said. “Because it’s out there. What we do is aggregate different aspects of different technologies with our own application.”

LiveCamNetwork and the 2much Crew are currently featured in the Showcase original series, “Webdreams“, a docu-soap about the lives of various online porn entrepreneurs, including Dugmor!, Malezia and KatrinaB.

The Award has people at LiveCamNetwork excited, but Prince is subdued about the nomination. “Some people are nominated over and over before they actually win anything. That’s fine. We’re happy enough just to be nomimated with our friends at Interclimax, Camz.com and the others, who I haven’t really met but all add to the obvious quality and competition in that category [Live Feed Provider].”

2much has confirmed members will be present at the Ceremony in Hollywood, California, at the Key Club on Sunset Strip, Nov. 17, 2005, during the Webmaster Access West Trade show.

“How could we miss it?” said Prince. The CEO plans to spend a day riding the coasters at 6 Flags, and challenges the adult webmaster community to keep up with “Coaster Boy”.

“I plan to ride the most technologically advanced coaster in the world, The X, at least 3 times,” Prince said, inviting fellow nominees and Webmaster Access attendees to the “XXX 2much webmaster GT” at 6Flaggs.

“Bring your most ‘flash-friendly’ models to the parkHealth Fitness Articles,” Prince said. “I fucking love techonology.”

25 ways to get more business

Discover these 25 cash producing strategies designed to make you money in the next 30-90 days. Any one of these strategies can grow business immediately, and most are things you probably wouldn’t think of.

Need more business? Who doesn’t?

Thankfully, new business is pretty easy to get, but you do have to do something to get it. Usually something you aren’t currently doing. Here are 25 ways you can bring in more business, and if you do things right, more profits.

These are not long term business strategies. These are short to medium term tactics designed to put cash in your bank account within the next 30 – 90 days.

1. Hire a salesperson. Or, if you already have salespeople, hire another one. You may not be able to pay them a salary, so make it for 100% commission, and make the commission generous. And of course, pay their expenses. This will work best if you have a sales process in place, and some kind of systemized knowledge that will bring them up to speed quickly.

2. Get some sales training. The Sandler Selling System is great for simple sales. Mike Bosworths Customer Centric Selling is great for complex sales. Of course there are many others, and any good sales training program will get your sales off whatever dime you are stuck on.

3. Start a referral program. This doesnt mean simply ask for referrals, but do it routinely. Do it systematically. Have a method to ask, and have a method to reward people who do refer.

4. Add products to your back end. The costliest part is getting new customers. Why not maximize your investment and sell those customers additional products and services.

5. If you sell a service, consider adding products that compliment it.

6. If you sell products, adding services is even easier.

7. If you sell free-form consulting, consider bundling specific services into a “productized” form. Give it a name, make the price fixed. Typically the “productizing” and fixed price enables you to sell at higher prices than previously.

8. Raise your prices. Most people undervalue what they do and charge way too little for it. And many others discount from their “list” at the drop of a hat. Stop discounting, but if you must, always get something in exchange. Think tradeoffs. And raise your rates for services and products both.

9. Joint ventures. Find people who have something you need, like products, or customers and trade with them. Pool your resources. Pool your time. Create something larger than either of you. Make it a win-win.

10. Strategic alliances. How does this differ from above? A strategic alliance partner is only involved in one aspect of your business – in other words, they may source leads or product. A joint venture partner is a deeper involvement. Youll work more closely on more aspects.

11. Referral fees. You probably make these referrals anyway. Now get paid for them.

12. Affiliate programs. This is simply the systemized approach to referral fees, and on the internet is THE way to do business.

13. Take your white papers or articles and collect them into a special report which can be used for marketing purposes, or sold outright as its own revenue center.

14. Sell a subscription to your service. Lock in the revenue and accelerate the payments. Then give them special bonuses or super-service for being subscribers, or members.

15. Create bundles out of all your existing products. Put things together and offer special pricing. This may lower your “per unit” revenue, but it will increase average transaction size, as well as total revenue.

16. The Rolodex routine. This means going through your Rolodex, name-by-name, and calling everyone who looks promising. For something. For selling, for networking, for referrals, even for “how do you do.”

17. Conduct a survey. Ask your client base questions. This process will get you great information about your market, and it will always bring you “unexpected” business.

18. Offer your services or products at a silent or charity auction. While this wont bring in money immediately, it will almost always expand your client base.

19. Offer to let key influencers give away some of your time, product.

20. If you have a service, consider turning your hard-one expertise into an educational course. This could be an e-course, a tele-course, printed home study course, even a live seminar or bootcamp.

21. Publish an ebook. Ebooks are a great way to promote your business and generate quick revenue.

22. Speak, speak, speak. Especially if you are a master of your individual expertise, speaking is a sure-fire way to bring in additional business.

23. Write articles. Articles and speaking compliment each other perfectly. Not only write those articles, but get them published. Anywhere you can.

24. Focus your market. Many people try to cover too much ground. By becoming a noted expert in a tightly-defined market niche, you can increase the power of all your marketing efforts, bringing in more business for each marketing dollar you spend.

25. Shift into an adjacent market. Sometimes your market niche is exhausted, and sometimes theyre just plain broke. A shift into an adjacent market niche can bring you all kinds of new business.

Tips for clients gifts

For those that have put in the time and effort to build up a business, they really need to understand the value of maintaining those hard won clients. There are many situations that may leave a business owner scratching his head and wondering which client gifts are the most appropriate, if any at all. The same can be said for valued employees as well.

For those that have put in the time and effort to build up a business, they really need to understand the value of maintaining those hard won clients. There are many situations that may leave a business owner scratching his head and wondering which client gifts are the most appropriate, if any at all. The same can be said for valued employees as well.

In order to maintain friendly, but professional boundaries it is good practice to think about what is and what is not appropriate when choosing client gifts. You really should put some thought into what gift is appropriate for what person. For example, you may think that the bottles of wine that you bought are the perfect thank-you presents, but these client gifts are not for everyone. That individual that you give them to me not drink alcohol, or worse yet may have a substance abuse problem. That could get pretty dicey. Another thing to consider is the customers background. Not everyone celebrates the same holiday and some may not appreciate receiving client gifts for holidays they do not recognize. If you’re not sure what a particular client or employee celebrated, then you may want to stay in the middle-of-the-road envy as neutral as you possibly can.

I worked for an agency that provides services to families who have autistic children. Since the child is the actual consumer, I had to be extra careful not to overstep professional boundaries by buying expensive client gifts for the children I worked with. That wasn’t an easy task at all because your first instinct is to do everything you can and to be as generous as possible to the kids. But it is always recommended that client is our inexpensive and appropriate.

Some customers are difficult to please and you may not find any present that they will enjoy. My sister bought an optical illusion puzzle for one of her customers. Believe it or not that individual actually called my sister and berated her because he didn’t have time to be wasting a foolish puzzles. That was way over the top on his part, in my opinion, but I just wanted to be known that that can and does happen. He interpreted the gift as an insinuation that he wastes time and does no real work. That’s why it’s really important that they client gifts are appropriate and at the same time appealing.

Some of the most valuable employees are secretaries. I always make it my business to include the secretaries when I’m giving client gifts. Remember, the Secretary is the gateway to the boss and usually has the bosses ear. If I have a relationship with a business, I always make sure to include the secretary in the client gifts because she is one of the most important contact people in the company. It is good practice to send a greeting card or flowers on Secretarys Day.

It’s pretty simple just make sure that you have a pretty good idea of who your client is before buying presents. Keep it clean and simple and keep it professional. That’s always a good policy. Even if you are able to have a comfortable lunch with a customer and even if you can exchange a few jokesFeature Articles, you really are better off keeping our relationship is that of business and that should always be reflected in the client gifts that you give.

Multiple streams of income is your key to a brighter future

You’ve heard it before from all of the Millionaire mentors… to manifest true wealth, you must develop mutliple streams of income. Faithfulness and persistence are key when it comes to being able to establish multiple streams of income. Follow the advice in this article and you’ll be on your way to living the lifestyle you’ve dreamed of.

Time Is NeededMaking money with multiple streams of income should not mean attempting to become rich overnight. While many seem to expect this, it rarely ever happens. Internet marketing should be looked upon just as any other business, where it takes time to develop and get into profit. While many of the ads you see tell us that Internet gurus make more than $50,000 in a 24 hour period, the truth is that they are very few and far between and those that are able to earn that kind of money have already paid the price. Those who are not so experienced should figure on sticking with something for at least 6 months to a year before big money starts to be made. Faithfulness and persistence are key when it comes to being able to establish multiple streams of income.

Work Is NeededOnce again, earning multiple streams of income will not come simply through idly sitting by filing your finger nails. Remember that the Internet constantly changes, and what works one day to bring in masses to your web site, may not work tomorrow. To be effective, it takes work, study, and spending many hours at the keyboard. Planning Is a MustOftentimes, those seeking to establish multiple streams of income, work in a rather scattered fashion. Many times more is learned than can ever be applied to your business. This has a tendency to leave a lot of necessary little things undone, and can only increase frustration. It would be more practical if you created your own list of things you would like to add to your marketing efforts. Start a daily, weekly and monthly ‘to do list’ and keep adding to this list one at a time. Soon you’ll get faster and more experience, allowing you to accomplish more in less time. You Must Take ActionAnother important factor is that you must take action. There is a ton of useful information out on the Internet and it is up to you to find it. Just reading book after book on marketing techniques is not going to bring home the big cash. You must put into action what you learn or nothing will ever come of it.

Find New Products or Services to MarketIf you find that a particular income stream is not working, you can always drop it and start a new one. Do not forget to do your homework before you dive into something else. Another beneficial thing to do is take the time to talk to others who are doing what you want to do and learn from them. It’s not always good business to recreate the wheel. Copy the successes of othersFeature Articles, believe in yourself and you will be on your way to manifesting your future.

3 essential pieces your company needs before making donations

A few times this Fall I’ve been a guest speaker on teleseminars to talk about charitable giving for companies.  Surprisingly few if any of the participant companies actually engaged in due diligence before making cash/check donations to organizations. I hear over and over, “We don’t ask them for information. We just think they are doing a good job”. YIKES! Would you purchase from a vendor without looking into their company, product, testimonials, pricing, etc.?

Without a doubt, due diligence is an absolute must.  It is important for your giving records, audit, and ensures you are giving wisely. Due diligence doesn’t have to be a long process requiring a lot of time and effort.

To make certain that your contributions are going to sound, healthy organizations and that your gift qualifies as a tax deduction, here are the 3 essential pieces of information you should gather from the nonprofit.

Do you eat your meals daily? Have you ever thought why? Your answer will be, “Simply, because I need energy for survival and to stay fit”. Similarly, motivation is like the daily diet that you require to support your feelings and if you are deprived of it then you have lost your self-confidence in the job. Most of the people feel that they have lost self-confidence, cannot concentrate on their work and feel nervous in public speaking. If you have any of these symptoms, then you are deprived of motivating factors in your life. Motivation is not only about external and internal forces that would help you to accomplish your goals; it is far more than that. It could be the key factor for your success in your job or in your business. When we hear the words “motivational speaker” some of us think of those that are going to brain wash us into a better emotional sense of well being. However, motivational speakers can be those that simply provide encouragement on various aspects of life as well as ways to find the pure happiness that an individual seeks. Motivational speakers are those that can help us find the humor that some of us lack in life.  Sometimes we are all guilty of being too serious and becoming too worked up over the simplest thing. Listening to a motivational speaker can provide us with ways to look at the bright side of a situation and give us the glitters that we need back in our life. In return, it helps our emotional state by bringing such simple joy. However, it is important to note that not all situations are ones to be taken lightly and that is the specialty of a motivational speaker to be cautious and know the difference. Some good samples of motivational speeches can be found on websites such as About.com, Google.com, Yahoo.com and other pages. It is important when you find sample speeches that you put your own unique spin or voice when rewriting. You must remember that it should come from your heart and use the samples as a way to get started and not copy. Using humor, true experiences, examples of well-known experiences will help you connect with an audience and it will move them. Be cautious of not having a tone of seriousness but more positive and strength. Your crowd will indeed thank you for it and you will surely receive a standing ovation. Standing ovations are hard to come byFree Reprint Articles, but don’t go looking for that. Give from your heart and stand by what message you are striving to give and be honest. That is the most important things to remember is to be honest.

Performance chips help freeway driving

California has a unique freeway system.  Drivers have to stop at a traffic light before entering the freeway.  I drive a Toyota Corolla, which means every trip is a near death experience as I merge into a line of speeding trucks.  I bought a performance chip and now I don’t need to bring a change of underwear on my morning commute.

I recently moved to California from the east coast.  Although I love the climate change and abundance of beautiful beach babes, I’m not too thrilled about California’s unique freeway system.  I can still remember my first experience like it was yesterday; actually it was last week.  I had just gotten to California and was headed to the beach to go surfing.  So I’m cruising on the 8, about to get onto the 15. I look down at my map to check what exit I want to get off at. I glance back up to see red; the brake lights of cars stopped in front of me.  Thank god for ABS.  I slammed my brakes and stopped just in time to avoid crashing into a Ford F150.  “Great, now I’m going to sit in traffic all day,” I thought.  As the line of cars slowly crept forward I could see a light in the distance.  Is that a police car? Maybe, it’s an ambulance? When I got closer I could see that the light was actually a traffic light.  This was the first time I have ever seen a traffic light on a freeway entrance.  I finally reached the light, which turned green for two seconds, and hit the gas.  I was giving my Corolla full throttle, but it wasn’t speeding up quick enough.  Looking in my rear view mirror, I could see the driver of the BMW behind me mouthing curses.  The lane started to approach the highway and I wasn’t going nearly as fast as the flow of traffic.  Apparently, California drivers have lead-foot syndrome.  My lane was merging and truck in the lane next to me that was going at least 30mphs faster than me had to slam on his brakes.  The driver thought it wouldn’t be enough to just curse, so I had a great view of his middle finger when he switched lanes and blew past me.  Now I’m not a slow driver, but let’s face it, a Corolla isn’t a race car.  I ended up making it to the beach in one piece, but I needed to find a solution if I was going to be taking the freeway to work everyday.

I talked to my brother-in-law, who is a mechanic, about my problem.  Basically, he gave me two options.  I could either buy a new car or make my car faster.  I definitely was not ready to buy a new car, especially with all my moving bills.  And the last thing I wanted was to be driving around a “rice rocket” or anything that looked like it came from the Fast and the Furious. He suggested adding a performance chip.  He had installed a few recently and said that they fine-tune your engine to increase performance.  The result is a boost in horsepowerFind Article, which means some lickety-split acceleration for me.

My brother-in-law suggested Bully dog performance chips or Quadzilla performance chips.  I ending up going with the Quadzilla and have seen a big improvement in my car’s pick up.  Eat my dust trucks…Or at least don’t run me over.
